The 4.75-inch face keeps a clean, low-key look in a modern ceiling.

Use it to wash a feature wall, angle light onto artwork or shelving, or create general lighting in a kitchen, family room or hallway. For an even layout, a good starting point is spacing downlights about half the ceiling height apart, around 4 feet on an 8-foot ceiling, and keeping the first row 2 to 3 feet off the walls.

This is the app-controlled version: it connects over Bluetooth to the Dals Connect app, where you can group fixtures, set schedules and choose from a range of colors. The integrated LED uses 9 watts on 120 volts. It is wet rated, so a shower ceiling or covered porch is fine, and it is cETLus certified, Energy Star qualified, Title 24 compliant and covered by a 5-year limited warranty.

Designer tip: Group the lights by zone in the app so a kitchen and its adjoining dining area can be set independently.

https://www.lampsexpo.com/products/dals-lighting-pivot-4-75-inch-smart-flat-gimbal-downlight-dcp-fgm4-wh
